Pond Rejuvenation
Catchment ponds can be used to catch rainwater. It not only conserves surface water, but also helps to recharge the aquifers as the water from the ponds slowly percolates into the ground. In addition to capturing and storing water, ponds also provide erosion control and facilitate groundwater recharge. Maintenance of ponds involves cleaning and removing sediment and general upkeep of the surrounding area. This technology is suitable in area with abundant rainfall to fill the ponds naturally.
Desilting of Ponds
Why?Silting reduces the capacity of the ponds.
When?Desilting is usually done during the summer season as the water levels are low.
Benefits –Desilting facilitates more groundwater recharge.
Silt dug up from ponds can be used as a substitute to fertilizers in farms.
